I read a interesting article today. In it the author talks about follow through. How, in 3 scenarios, if IT/ownership/organizations had followed through they would have seen better results. Her main point though has to do with security breaches. The author references a report issued by the Verizon Business Investigative Response team.
The ideas that tweaked my interest though were these 2 quotes;
Data thieves appear perfectly willing to victimize “smaller mom and pop” operations as well as larger enterprises.
&
Data compromises are considerably more likely to result from external attacks than from any other source.
It just isn’t the large organizations that thieves are targeting. It’s the pharmacy, the community access centre, the realty office or the grocery store that are now connected to the internet in one form or another.
The new year brings with it a perfect time to take a look at your business and get a feel for just how secure it really is.
You can read the entire report here.
